Sunscreens - Stop Aging Skin With Sunscreens - 2

In the first part, we learned about the types of sunscreens available. Let us look at the care we should take while using sunscreens.

Sunscreen Care-

Sunscreens are very good for protecting us from the harmful sun rays. But one must always know everything possible about the product before using it. A little care goes a long way.

Children:

Keep infants under 6 months of age out of the sun. Don’t use sunscreen on infants under 6 months of age because of increased chance of side effects. Children 6 months of age and older should be kept out of the sun or have limited exposure to the sun. Use sunscreen agents with a SPF of at least 15 for children. Prefer lotion sunscreens for use in children. Avoid alcohol-based sunscreen products for children as they can cause irritation.

Other Adults:

For elders who spend little time in sun and use sunscreen products, may develop vitamin D deficiency (which may result in bone disease and fracture), although this has not been proven. Get enough vitamin D. Eat food rich in vitamin D, (such as fortified milk or fatty fish.) Ask your Doctor about taking vitamin D supplements.

Other Medicines:

Please inform your Doctor, if you are using any prescription or nonprescription (over the counter) medicine or other product that is applied to the same area of the skin.

Other Medical Problems:

Some other medical problems may affect the use of sunscreen agents. Please always inform your Doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially: Skin conditions or diseases, especially those caused or worsened by exposure to light.
